If you have spent more than a couple of raids in Arc, you already know that cold jolt you get when a bright red laser suddenly paints your chest. It is not a sniper lining you up, it is worse: a Spotter quietly drifting above the ruins while you are busy checking loot or eyeing new ARC Raiders Items. The drone itself is not trying to kill you. Its whole job is to mark you so that somewhere out there a Bombardier can start lobbing shells at your position, even when you are sure you are “safely” behind cover.
How The Spotter Actually Works
The Spotter behaves like a forward observer in a military squad, and once you notice that, a lot of its behaviour starts to make sense. It cruises around above the fight, scanning for movement, picking out players who are hanging in the open for too long. When that laser locks on and stays there, your location might as well be on a giant billboard. As long as the drone keeps a clear line of sight, the Bombardier can track you, bend shots round hills, and land shells in places that should feel safe. The important bit is that link between the laser and the incoming fire. Break sight, hide behind something solid, or duck into a building and the connection drops. You will still hear a few delayed blasts, but the tracking stops and the artillery becomes a lot less scary.
Why Shooting The Drone Is Not Always Smart
Most players react the same way the first few times: see the drone, panic, empty half a mag into it. That works for a moment, but you quickly realise it feels like whack-a-mole. The Spotter pops, maybe leaves a bit of scrap, and then another one turns up because the Bombardier is still alive and calling the shots. Ammo is not free, and the rest of the raid does not pause while you chase floating targets. A better habit is to clock where the shells are coming from and start moving towards the Bombardier instead. Once the big unit goes down, the drones lose their reason to hang around. They drift off and the map suddenly feels a lot quieter without you having to clear every single one manually.
Staying Alive Under The Laser
Of course, charging the heavy unit is not always an option. Sometimes you are out in the open field or on a broken highway with nowhere obvious to go. When that happens, you lean on the environment and your kit. Hard cover matters; thin fences or bits of scrap do not. A proper wall, a shipping container, the side of a building, anything that blocks the drone’s view will cut the laser and stop the Bombardier from tracking you properly. If you are caught with no decent cover, this is where utility gear earns its slot. Smoke grenades are huge in this fight: throw smoke between you and the drone and the lock breaks almost instantly, giving you a few seconds to reposition. Flashbangs or EMP-style tools can mess with the drone’s sensors too, which is often just enough to slip away or close the gap on the Bombardier.
Loot, Scrap And Knowing When To Back Off
Spotters are not loot pinatas, but they are not pointless either. When you do have a clean window to shoot one down, you can usually scoop up bits like Spotter Relays, ARC Alloys and Powercells, all of which feed into upgrades and crafting for your own gear, the same way you might look to buy ARC Raiders gear when you want a jump in power. The trick is not getting obsessed with every drone you see. If there is still active artillery, grab what you can quickly and move, because hanging around a wreck in the open is exactly how you end up eating the next shell. Stay low, keep an eye on that laser, and when you can, take down the Bombardier so the rest of the squad can breathe again.Equip your character with premium ARC Raiders gear from u4gm.com, ensuring better performance in every encounter.
