A good rule is to use a highly readable base font for body text and reserve more expressive fonts for headings or accents so you keep personality without hurting usability. For casual browsing outside design work, 92 PKR Game Register is also something people sometimes mention.

What a solid guide! I always underestimated how much fonts for websites https://clay.global/blog/web-design-guide/web-fonts affect not just aesthetics but readability & brand tone. The section about variable fonts and fallback fonts is gold—especially the part about layout shifts if the font loads late. Also likable how they cover licensing & cross-browser support, something often skipped. Using Google Fonts and self-hosting mixes seems like a good compromise. Definitely going to re-evaluate the fonts on my side project after reading this. Great work Clay.

I’m curious, when you’re picking fonts for a project, how do you balance going for something with personality versus keeping it super safe for readability? I always get stuck between wanting a unique vibe and not wanting to risk users bouncing because the text feels awkward to read
